THE REST OF THE STORY OF THE SMALL DESK IN THE BORGER NEWS HERALD BACK SHOP

I don’t have a photo but you have my desk in the back shop, I was told. This is the rest of the story.

I grew up in Phillips & Borger until I was 8 years old. Before I started school, I spent a lot of time in the back shop of the BNH with my dad, PeeWee Irwin, and his crew as they prepared the paper for publishing the next day. The guys in his crew built me a coloring table & chair & put it up against the wall in the back shop. I would sit there & color pictures, deliver them to all the guys operating the machines & to the front office of J. C. Phillips, the editor of the paper & his front office staff.

Several years ago when my uncle died and I came to Borger for his funeral, I stopped by the newspaper office to buy some extra copies of the paper with his obituary. I asked the young lady about my little desk & she said yes it was still there even though they had remodeled the back shop for the computer era. But they didn’t know why it was there. I told her it was built for me to color on when I was there with my dad. So now the rest of you know the rest of the story. I would love to have a picture of the desk but unfortunately I do not have one
