A Doggie Dad

This is from a blog post for my children’s book, Butch The One Of A Kind Dog.

Butch’s dog friends in the neighborhood were like people.  They came in different sizes, shapes, colors, and degrees of attractiveness.  Butch probably had the distinction of being the most unattractive of the group.  Some even referred to the brindle wiener dog as the ugliest dog they had ever seen.  However, what Butch lacked in looks, he made up in personality.

One Saturday morning we looked out and saw one of our neighbors coming the street carrying a box.  She came up our sidewalk and rang the bell.  We didn’t have to wonder very long what was in the box.  She immediately thrust the box into Ken’s hands and said, “It is your turn to have custody.  I believe in sharing.”

Oh my goodness!  It was a box of puppies.  Some were black and white like their mother and some were brown brindle.  There was no doubt that they were Butch’s offspring.

After much oohing and aahing, she took them back to their mother.  They eventually went to homes of their own and made other children proud owners of funny looking dogs.

Butch never admitted paternity or even showed any interest in the pups.  He never indicated any concern about whether they had good homes or were happy.  He just went on his own merry way.
