{"id":396,"date":"2015-03-05T15:09:35","date_gmt":"2015-03-05T21:09:35","guid":{"rendered":"https:\/\/loosestringsfromthepast.com\/?p=396"},"modified":"2015-04-09T19:53:27","modified_gmt":"2015-04-10T00:53:27","slug":"bird-whisperer","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/loosestringsfromthepast.com\/?p=396","title":{"rendered":"THE BIRD WHISPERER"},"content":{"rendered":"<p style=\"text-align: center;\"><a href=\"https:\/\/loosestringsfromthepast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_0217.jpg-John-and-pigeon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-357\" src=\"https:\/\/loosestringsfromthepast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_0217.jpg-John-and-pigeon-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0217.jpg John and pigeon\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n<p>&nbsp;<\/p>\n<p>John told me not to write this because no one would believe it.\u00a0 I told him I was going to write it anyway.\u00a0 I have never known John to lie.\u00a0 His wife and neighbors verify the story and they have pictures to prove it.\u00a0 I believe it.\u00a0 I have read more unusual animal stories in my time.<\/p>\n<p>John\u2019s first encounter with the dove happened on a morning in early spring.\u00a0 He was sitting on his porch drinking coffee and watching some neighborhood children play.\u00a0 The bird landed in the front yard and began wandering toward him.\u00a0 It eventually hopped onto his shoe.\u00a0 He\u00a0thought the bird was either sick or retarded.\u00a0 He leaned down, picked it up, and put it on the porch railing.\u00a0 He got some bread and made little crumbs.\u00a0 The bird ate them out of his hand.\u00a0 After about 10 or 15 minutes, the bird flew away.<\/p>\n<p>John switched to tortilla crumbs and kept them\u00a0nearby in a bowl.\u00a0 The bird began to land on John\u2019s shoulder instead of the porch railing. \u00a0It would often walk on\u00a0his shoulders from one side to the other pecking at his ears, neck and hair as it moved along.\u00a0 \u00a0John would eventually open the bowl of bread and put the bird on the railing.\u00a0 The bird would eat and after a time\u00a0it would leave. This became a morning ritual.<\/p>\n<p>This was happening every morning when the bird also began appearing in the early evening.<\/p>\n<p>One morning John was in the yard talking to a neighbor when there was a whir and a thump on his chest.\u00a0 His neighbor stepped back and exclaimed, \u201cWhat in the (expletive)?\u201d\u00a0 John took the bird in his hand and said, \u201cIt\u2019s time to feed the falcon.\u201d\u00a0\u00a0From that point forward,\u00a0he called the dove Frank the Falcon.\u00a0 He took it over to the porch and fed it.<\/p>\n<p>John talked to his dog and his cat so it seemed natural to begin talking to this new creature in his life.\u00a0 (I am sure he made sure no one saw him talking to a wild bird.)<\/p>\n<p>This is the really unbelievable part.\u00a0 John admitted that he was still smoking some at the time.\u00a0(He and I had discussed his smoking in a negative conversation or two, so\u00a0it was not easy for him to tell me this. This is another reason I believe him.) \u00a0He kept a coffee can on the porch for cigarette butts.\u00a0 He was talking to the dove and scolding it\u00a0for pooping on the porch railing.\u00a0 The bird stopped eating and looked around.\u00a0 John said, \u201cDon\u2019t you even think about it.\u201d\u00a0 The bird looked at him, walked down the railing and pooped in the can.\u00a0 This was the only time it did this, but it never pooped on the railing again.\u00a0 I have never known John to lie.\u00a0 He affirms this is the unbelievable truth.<\/p>\n<p>When summer came, Frank left.<\/p>\n<p>The next spring Frank was back eating on the porch railing.\u00a0 The ritual continued.\u00a0 Frank was there every day for 2 or 3 months.\u00a0 One day it was gone and John didn\u2019t see it again after that.\u00a0 I thought perhaps John had confessed to Frank that he had been a dove hunter and Frank got mad at him.\u00a0 He assures me that he never mentioned that.\u00a0 Perhaps Frank was the victim of another hunter or a predator.\u00a0 \u00a0We will never know what happened to a friendly little bird called Frank the Falcon that bonded with a kind hearted man.<\/p>\n<p style=\"text-align: center;\">\u00a0<a href=\"https:\/\/loosestringsfromthepast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_02241.jpg-john-and-pigeon.jpg\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"alignnone size-medium wp-image-354\" src=\"https:\/\/loosestringsfromthepast.com\/wp-content\/uploads\/2015\/02\/IMG_02241.jpg-john-and-pigeon-300x225.jpg\" alt=\"IMG_0224[1].jpg john and pigeon\" width=\"300\" height=\"225\" \/><\/a><\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>&nbsp; John told me not to write this because no one would believe it.&nbsp; I told him I was going to write it anyway.&nbsp; I have never known John to lie.&nbsp; His wife and neighbors verify the story and they have pictures to prove it.&nbsp; I believe it.&nbsp; I have read more unusual animal stories [&hellip;]<\/p>\n","protected":false},"author":1,"featured_media":0,"comment_status":"open","ping_status":"open","sticky":false,"template":"","format":"standard","meta":{"footnotes":""},"categories":[13],"tags":[40,39,38,41],"class_list":["post-396","post","type-post","status-publish","format-standard","hentry","category-other-things","tag-a-dove-named-frank-the-falcon","tag-bird-and-man-form-a-bond","tag-dove-bonds-with-a-man","tag-wild-dove-story"],"yoast_head":"<!-- This site is optimized with the Yoast SEO plugin v27.4 -
