Children say cute things and exhibit unusual reasoning.\u00a0 We usually laugh and forget it until the next cute or wise remark.<\/p>\n

I try not to bore people by quoting my great-grandchildren, but sometimes I cannot resist.<\/p>\n

Our four-year old twin great-granddaughters often discover a new word, like the way it sounds, and repeat it for several weeks.\u00a0 One of the latest words is \u201cannoy.\u201d They are annoyed by things, situations, and some people.<\/p>\n

Four years ago we had the three oldest great-grandchildren here for a few days.\u00a0 Our great-grandson and his sister were here first.\u00a0 We were to meet in Lampasas at a Sonic type drive-in to get their cousin.\u00a0 We arrived early and discovered there was no inside seating.\u00a0 It was a sweltering July day.\u00a0 We decided to go down the street to the Dairy Queen and wait inside.\u00a0 The children were not listening when Ken called our granddaughter and told her the plan change.\u00a0 As we were slowly going around the long drive to the exit, Ken said to the great-grandson, \u201cWe are going to the Dairy Queen.\u00a0 You hop out and stay here so you can tell them where we are.\u201d\u00a0 (Ken is prone to tease with the children.)\u00a0 The little boy grew silent in deep thought.\u00a0 He answered with a half frown, worried look on his face, \u201cWell, don\u2019t you think you better tell me what kind of car they are driving?\u201d\u00a0 That was great five year old logic. \u00a0I laughed and told him granddad was teasing.<\/p>\n

The great-grandson is now ten years old.\u00a0 He is wise to Ken\u2019s teasing and can hold his own.\u00a0 The following exchanges occurred this past summer.<\/p>\n

Ken sent great-grandson to comb his hair.\u00a0 A short time later, the boy was told to put on sunscreen and a cap before going outside.\u00a0 When he came back inside, Ken told him to take the cap off inside the house.<\/p>\n

Great-grandson: \u201cI had to comb my hair before I put on the cap.\u00a0 The cap just messed it up.\u00a0 Why couldn\u2019t I have waited to comb my hair?\u201d<\/p>\n

One evening the boy was running in the house.<\/p>\n

Ken: \u201cWhat have we told you about running in the house?\u201d<\/p>\n

Great-grandson slowed and started strutting around in a circle.\u00a0 \u201cI am not running.\u00a0 I am strutting.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ken:\u00a0 \u201cWhat would grandmother tell you about strutting?\u201d<\/p>\n

Great-grandson: \u201cShe would say to strut faster.\u201d<\/p>\n

Kubota aka The Taxi<\/figcaption><\/figure>\n

We have a Kubota 4×4 ATV.\u00a0 \u00a0When great-grandson was about 5 years old, Ken discovered the key had been moved.\u00a0 The little boy had gotten the key with the intent of going for a ride.\u00a0 Fortunately, he was unable to start the Kubota.\u00a0 Ken put the key where he could not get it.\u00a0 This summer he was allowed to drive the Kubota by himself.\u00a0 He was careful, observed the rules and did not abuse the privilege.<\/p>\n

After several hours of mowing one afternoon, Ken called and asked me to tell the boy that he needed a taxi at the barn for a ride to the house. The barn is inside a pasture through a gate.\u00a0 Great-grandson went to the barn, picked up his granddad and started the return ride to the house.\u00a0 He opened the pasture gate, drove through, and got out to close the gate.\u00a0 While he was closing the gate, Ken put his foot on the accelerator and the Kubota began to move slowly forward.\u00a0 Great-grandson had to run to catch up.<\/p>\n

Great-grandson: \u201cI am going to suspend you from my taxi for that.\u201d<\/p>\n

Ken: \u201cThen I will tell everyone this is not a safe taxi.\u201d<\/p>\n

Great-grandson: \u201cO.K, I won\u2019t suspend you, but you are going to have to ride in the back.\u201d<\/p>\n

We enjoy our time with our great grandchildren.\u00a0 Like their parents did, they are growing up too quickly.<\/p>\n
