Losing a pet is a sad occasion.<\/p>\n

Daisy came to us because she would not stay in our son\u2019s yard in Weatherford.\u00a0 We were in the country with room for her to roam.\u00a0 She remained an escape artist.<\/p>\n

She had to adjust to our other dogs.\u00a0 Our oldest dog was an old English sheepdog named Lucy. \u00a0She was definitely the ruler of the pack.\u00a0 Abby was a young Shar-Pei.\u00a0 She was used to all of Lucy\u2019s attention and had no intention of sharing it with Daisy.\u00a0 Daisy was jealous of her, and they did not get along.\u00a0 After a few minor skirmishes, they decided to make peace and eventually began to play together.\u00a0 The other dog was a Weimaraner named Sparkle.\u00a0 She got along with all of them, but she preferred to be wherever there were people.<\/p>\n

Daisy was part Catahoula.\u00a0 She became a very good watch dog.\u00a0 She knew what was going on around the entire place.\u00a0 She met everyone who came onto the property.\u00a0 She often sent people scrambling back to their cars.\u00a0 She would bare her teeth, and they expected her to growl.\u00a0 She was not showing anger.\u00a0 That was her smile.\u00a0 Family and friends soon learned that was her way of greeting them.<\/p>\n

Her bad habit was digging under the front fence.\u00a0 We live on a private road, and she did not roam far.\u00a0 She could dig holes faster than Ken could fill them up.\u00a0 Then he started putting large rocks into the holes.\u00a0 She could move a rock almost as large as she was.\u00a0 He talked about putting a concrete curb under the fence, but it never happened. \u00a0A couple of years ago the gate opener broke.\u00a0 Rather than get out of a vehicle to open and close the gate, we often just left it open.\u00a0 We discovered that if the gate was open, Daisy stayed inside.\u00a0 She seemed to have no interest in getting out if she did not have to work at it.\u00a0 The gate opener was fixed, but Daisy was aging and having health issues. She did not have the energy for very much digging.<\/p>\n

As her energy diminished, she wanted to lay outside on warm nights.\u00a0 Within the last week, our barn cat began to sleep outside with her.\u00a0 Early on Thursday morning, a light rain moved over.\u00a0 Daisy apparently made no effort to seek shelter.\u00a0 The barn cat stayed with her.<\/p>\n

Daisy was buried today beside her friends, Lucy, Abby, and Sparkle.\u00a0 We will miss her.<\/p>\n
