Our cousin, Jackie Lee, was two years older than my brother, Carroll.\u00a0 She immediately dubbed him \u201cBoy Baby.\u201d\u00a0 The name stuck.\u00a0 She used it throughout her life.\u00a0 It was a term of endearment she used only within the family.\u00a0 She never used the term in any situation that might embarrass him.<\/p>\n

Jackie lived in town.\u00a0 She enjoyed visits to the farm.\u00a0 She got to help feed the chickens, gather the eggs, and watch the cows being milked.<\/p>\n

The little farm boy often took advantage of Jackie’s gullibility. There were no green lawns at the dairy, only hard pebbly soil.\u00a0 There were small rocks in a variety of shapes and colors. The cousins each had a can and were collecting rocks.\u00a0 Carroll said, \u201cLook Jackie.\u00a0 Here is a pretty one. You can have it.\u201d\u00a0 Jackie bent down, reached out a small hand and grabbed a glob of chicken poop.\u00a0 (Yes, black or brownish chicken excrement with a little white on top can glisten in the sunlight.)<\/p>\n

Another time they were running and playing.\u00a0 They got very hot and sweaty.\u00a0 Carroll told her if they went into the barn to the oat bin and rolled in the oats, the oats would cool them off.\u00a0 Of course, Jackie went first.\u00a0 She immediately started stinging and itching.\u00a0 I can visualize her running to the house crying in discomfort.\u00a0 Years later when they told this, Carroll grinned and wryly said, \u201cI think I got a whipping for that one.\u201d<\/p>\n

Through the years they often recounted stories of their antics.\u00a0 They had fun together and had a special bond.\u00a0 The family enjoyed listening to their stories and laughing with them.<\/p>\n
