We moved into our Stephenville home in December 2000.\u00a0 Several days later we awoke to snow-covered ground.\u00a0 We were drinking our morning coffee when we saw two strangers in the front yard.\u00a0 They were building a snowman.\u00a0 Neighbors had come to welcome us.<\/p>\n
The couple became good friends.\u00a0 We shared many cups of coffee and meals with them.\u00a0 They had a peach orchard and a grove of pecan trees.\u00a0 We enjoyed the fruits of their labor.\u00a0 We always had fresh peaches in the spring and early summer.\u00a0 I made peach pies, cobblers, and peach preserves.\u00a0 In the fall they brought pecans for wonderful goodies.<\/p>\n
They loved to ride in the Model A pictured on this site.\u00a0 She took art lessons.\u00a0 One of her projects was a picture of us riding in the old car.<\/p>\n
As the years passed, she began to have memory problems.\u00a0 She was prescribed medication in the form of a patch.\u00a0 We were conversing in their living room one afternoon.\u00a0 She couldn\u2019t recall what she wanted to tell us and remarked that she had not put on her patch that morning.\u00a0 He was mildly upset that she had not put it on.\u00a0 She looked at him directly in the eye and said, \u201cDon\u2019t worry about it.\u00a0 I still remember your name.\u201d\u00a0 We all chuckled and continued talking.<\/p>\n
It was a sad day when he finally admitted that he could no longer adequately care for her at home.\u00a0 It was even sadder as she reached the stage when she no longer remembered his name or knew who he was.<\/p>\n
She left this life in November 2018.\u00a0 She is whole again.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"
